Walk Ambassador Sadie's Wish Story...
Seven-year-old Wish Kid, Sadie, was diagnosed in 2007 with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a cancer of the adrenal system. After a year of chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and a stem-cell transplant, Sadie completed her treatment in 2009.
Sadie loves kittens, the color pink, and science. She hopes to become a surgeon when she grows up. When asked what her wish would be, Sadie told Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteers that she most wanted to visit Walt Disney World in Florida. And, so her wish was granted!
Sadie and her family were treated to five fun-filled days exploring the many parks, including the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Disney/MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Sea World and Universal Studios. They stayed at “Give Kids the World,” a non-profit organization dedicated to serving special needs kids and their families.
Cute as a button, Sadie donned a princess dress she received during her Wish and wears it proudly! When asked about her trip, Sadie says “It was the best wish ever!”
In November 2009, a routine bone scan showed a "hot spot" had developed on Sadie's skull. A biopsy in December confirmed that the spot was new neuroblastoma forming in the bone marrow of her skull. In January 2010, Sadie had a port-a-cath installed and began chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Sadie will be on chemotherapy for approximately eight months, in hope that this treatment will knock the cancer back into remission.
